How to Be Inspired By Your Clothes

12 Apr 2019
It happens to every woman. You look in your closet and see it full of clothes, however, you feel that you have absolutely nothing to wear. In fact, you have lots of different outfit options but you are just tired of the pieces in your closet. So what do you do? You hit the stores, looking for some new pieces to freshen up your closet and add some new looks to your wardrobe, right?… Well, what happens when you get tired of these pieces in a few weeks? Shopping is not ALWAYS the solution to a worn out wardrobe. Here at Heirloom, we not only have the best essential layering shirts but great fashion tips as well. Here are a few ways you can get inspired by your clothes.

Clean Out Your Closet

If your closet is full of clothes that don’t fit you or are out of style, no wonder you feel that you have nothing to wear. The first step in maximizing your wardrobe is cleaning out your closet and getting rid of any items that you no longer wear or like. A good rule of thumb when cleaning out your closet is, if you haven’t worn it in the last year, throw it out. However, don’t go overboard and throw out every single item you are tired of wearing; you can’t be inspired by your clothes if you get rid of them all!

Look at Inspiration Photos

Another great tip for getting excited about your wardrobe is to look at some inspiration photos. Pinterest is a great tool for doing this. You can search for outfits based on pieces you already have in your closet. For example, you can search, “white cap sleeve shirt outfit” or “how to wear floral blouses,” and find a list of results that will steer you in the right direction. This way, you can see how different women are wearing the same items that you have in your closet, just in a new way.

Formulate Outfits

Many women like to create outfit “formulas” so they can get dressed quickly in the morning and not waste time thinking about what to wear. A good example of an outfit “formula” is a plain layering shirt, with a patterned or bright colored top layer (sweater, cardigan, jacket, blouse, etc.), a pair of jeans, ankle boots, and a necklace. Another good formula is a simple dress, with heels, a jacket or cardigan, and completed with some jewelry. When you create formulas, you start with simple essential pieces and build on from that, utilizing different pieces in your closet that you wouldn’t normally wear.

Ask for an Outside Opinion

The last tip in maximizing your wardrobe is to ask for an outside opinion on some of the pieces in your closet. Invite your girlfriends over for some lunch, and after, head back to your closet to get their opinion on some of your outfits. You can ask them how they would wear certain pieces; your friends may be full of wonderful ideas. You might look at a layering shirt and have a completely different idea than your friend does, and swapping ideas can open up a world of possibilities.

It’s easy to get bored of your clothes, but it’s also easy to get inspired by your clothes and come up with some new and attractive outfit ideas. For more fashion tips and to browse our incredible selection of essential layering shirts and fashion items, visit the rest of our website today!
