What to Pack in Your Gym Bag

29 Mar 2019

Finding time to go to the gym amongst your busy schedule can be difficult. It seems that no matter how hard you try to fit the gym into your daily routine, something else always comes up that seems to be more pressing. There just isn’t enough time to get ready for the gym, complete your workout, and then head home to get ready before needing to get to your next commitment. However, if you pack your gym bag in advance, you can simply grab it and go without wasting excessive time. Here are a few essentials that you should keep in your gym bag.

Gym Clothes

This one is pretty obvious, but even if you choose to wear your exercise clothes to the gym, it’s always smart to pack an extra set. Many women prefer to keep an extra cap sleeve shirt in their bag in case their workout shirt happens to get a little too soiled. In addition to an extra essential shirt, throw in your favorite workout pants and shoes. It’s also a good idea to pack an extra sports bra as well as underwear and socks.

Another reason it’s smart to have an extra set of clothes in your bag is if you want to change into something clean after your workout. By changing out of your sweaty exercise shirt and into a clean long sleeve layering shirt, you can automatically feel a little cleaner and more refreshed.

Headphones are a must when going to the gym. Is there anything worse than getting to the gym and realizing you forgot your headphones? No, there really isn’t. In order to ensure that you never forget your headphones, invest in a pair that you use specifically for the gym and keep them in your gym bag at all times. You won’t ever have to worry about having to exercise without your favorite podcast, TV show or music playing in your ears.

Reusable Water Bottle and Snacks

A reusable water bottle is one of the best things you can take to the gym as it will help you stay hydrated throughout your workout. In addition, you should keep a few snacks in your bag. These snacks will come in handy either before or after your workout when you are feeling a little light-headed and need some nourishment.

Hair Accessories

The only thing that might be worse than forgetting your headphones at the gym is forgetting a hair tie. Sweating is no fun, especially not with your hair getting matted to your neck and face. Just as you would pack an extra cap sleeve shirt, you should pack a few extra hair ties or headbands, as well as a comb or brush in your bag to save you from any hair emergencies.

This is something that many people don’t think to keep in their gym bag, but if you are planning on cleaning up at the gym and heading straight to your next errand, toiletries will be a necessity. Deodorant, perfume, dry shampoo and a little makeup can help you feel refreshed after you exercise. If you plan on showering at the gym, make sure to bring a towel as well as any shower essentials. Try packing these items in travel-sized tubes so they don’t take up too much room in your bag.

Plastic Bags

This one might sound weird, but some women prefer to bring some plastic or grocery bags to stick their dirty clothes in after their workout. You don’t want your sweaty layering shirt stinking up everything in your bag.

There you have it, all the essential items you should pack in your gym bag. Once your gym bag is packed and ready to go, you can quickly run to the gym, get your workout in, clean up and get on with the rest of your day.
